Two small-time (aspiring to be big-time) producers are trying to convince a Chicago businessman to finance half of their show, while the other half is to be financed by a mysterious Mme. Deborah. But when Madame Deborah is not on hand to meet the money-man from Chicago, an ex-prizefighter is dressed to pose as her. Music and dancing provided by Deek Watson and His Brown Dots, 'Big' Sid Catlett and his band, and Ann Cornell and the International Jitterbugs. Drummer Gene Krupa has a drumming cameo.

The East Side Kids find a young girl in the apartment of a man who has just been murdered. Believing her to be innocent, they hide her in their clubhouse while they try to find the real killer. Lum Edwards (Chester Lauck) is annoyed with his partner in Pine Ridge's Jot-em-Down general store Abner Peabody (Norris Goff) because Abner has swapped their delivery car for a racehorse. Lum is also too timid to propose to Geraldine (Zasu Pitts) so he involves Abner in a "rescue" effort which nearly gets both of them killed. They try again and this time Geraldine is impressed. Lun writes a proposal note but Abner, by mistake, delivers it to the Widder Abernathy (Constance Purdy) who has been ready to remarry for years. This puts Lum in a peck of trouble until the sheriff (Irving Bacon) appears with the Widders long-gone and hiding husband.

Gang leader Trigger Mallory is about to be released from prison. When Bill Carson notices the resemblance, he gets the Warden to hold Mallory and he assumes his identity. He fools both the gang and Trigger's girlfriend Jessie as he sets them up to be captured. But Trigger escapes from prison and returns to expose the hoax and Bill is made a prisoner.
